Advocacy
Who We Are
The Co-Advocates of Ventura County (Co-Advocates) represent a group of individuals with IDD and support staff from The Arc who are dedicated to advocating for the rights of the disability community. By educating individuals on their rights and responsibilities and providing opportunities for leadership, volunteerism, and civic activism, the Co-Advocates have created a community of inclusion and respect for people with disabilities.
What We Do
Project R: Reconsider, Rethink, Respect, is a self-advocacy campaign focused on eliminating the use of disrespectful references, such as the “R-word,” toward people with IDD. This powerful campaign is focused on educating members of the community to include and respect people with disabilities. Launched in 2012, Project R’s message of inclusion and acceptance has been shared with over 12,000 Ventura County students.
